Big Baby Bowser needs Big Money Surgery

Donation protected
*UPDATE*
Bowser will be going into his second surgery tonight, Friday 21 Feb. He is septic, which is basically an infection from the intestines being damaged by the obstruction which was some string. His vet bills now exceed $20,000 USD. We are doing literally everything we can and then some, maxing out CCs and putting all our savings into saving his life. Any contribution is so appreciated. Thank you so much for the support, but Bowser needs a little more today if you have it

In November 2023, the stars aligned and our dream of getting a Rottweiler puppy came true. Bowser came to us and became our baby. Bowser is now a 1 year and 5 months old. He is the definition of a gentle giant, and he is the sweetest companion dog our family could have asked for. Bowser bonded with our family immediately and embodies the meaning of being a Velcro dog. He immediately found love in his sibling pug sister - we have a family of eyebrow dogs.

The very same day the universe brought us Bowser, we learned that our family would be moving from Canada to Denver for a military posting. The opportunity to grow our family with Bowser and provide companionship was the universe aligning for us to take on this new chapter in our lives.

Bowser was so tiny and fluffy. He had the softest fur. And is a good boy. He was so gentle with our pug, he loved to run after her, and he looked like such a silly doofus with his giant paws that he didn’t know how to operate yet. He would see the snow and run across the deck and slide and then fall off because he was too excited to wait for the stairs.

On Feb 16th, we woke up to three pukes in our house which was obviously concerning. We kept watching him and by 11:30 in the morning he had thrown up 10 times. We called the emergency vet (since it was Sunday) and brought him there within the hour. The x-rays showed that his intestines were blocked and were now getting bunched up and his stomach was twisted. This was the worst situation possible. The vet advised that he needed surgery or he wouldn’t survive. Our family didn’t hesitate, and we took on the cost needed so that our baby boy could get a chance to live a long, healthy life.

Bowser’s surgery was a little bit more complicated than some due to the nature of the blockage. He was in surgery for about 2 1/2 hours. And he just has never properly recovered. He’s trying, we are trying, we visit twice a day. It’s a freak accident that could happen to anyone.

He has had a feeding tube placed to help draw fluid from his stomach and also give him liquid nutrients and water. He just isn’t responding as quickly as they would hope. He has been overnight in hospital consistently since Sunday Feb 16. His vet bill is currently over US$11,000, and is growing. If he doesn’t respond to this round of drugs, the vet has proposed another surgery may be necessary, which will cost another $10-15,000. This is just money we do not have.

Everyone who meets Bowser, falls victim to his temperament and loving soul. There’s no such thing as strangers to him, only new friends. We got a Rottweiler to become advocates for the breed. Bowser personifies what it means to be a good dog. Everybody always comments on what a sweet boy he is and how well trained he is and we take great pride in our dog being a good dog that people enjoy being around.

We love Bowser. I am unable to have children due to being diagnosed with cervical cancer at 27, so when I say my dogs are my babies, he really is a baby to me. We love and adore him. And we want to do what is best for him. Before this, Bowser was a healthy boy. He was just at the vet the last week for his shots and they said that he was in perfect health. We have not been irresponsible with his care and we are able to financially care for him. But this is coming to a point where this is beyond our means. And what that means for us moving forward, could be heartbreaking.

We are asking for help because we don’t know what else to do. We will not be asking for funds beyond what we need and will be transparent with bills as needed. We appreciate your willingness to help, and respect if you cannot.
