Big Mumma Larchey amputation and after care
Donation protected
I’m Sam and I have a passion for helping hedgehogs. Over the last three years, I have helped to rescue, rehabilitate and release hedgehogs from my own garden and also helped local Faversham hedgehog rescues too. I love doing it and there have been so many highs along with some low times too.
Big Mumma Larchey was taken to Hogwinkles Rescue in Faversham as she was seen dragging one of her back legs. Due to an impending holiday, I was asked to take Big Mumma Larchey into my care. This gorgeous hog was pregnant but sadly has lost all six hoglets most likely due to the fact that she knew she was ill and wouldn’t be able to forage to keep her hoglets alive. Swale Barn Vets helped her deliver her last two hoglets and will be also amputating her back leg. Although they reduce their fees, there is a cost and I’d like to help raise funds to help towards covering this amount.
You can help in many ways, by donating the cost of a coffee and, more importantly, by providing shallow bowls of fresh water in your front and back gardens and by making hedgehog highways from garden to garden as hedgehogs travel many miles in search of food. If they can go from garden to garden, they don’t need to cross as many roads.
Your help is hugely appreciated. I’m on instagram @hedgehogsathilton if you’d like to see more.
Big Mumma Larchey is now in surgery. Keeping everything crossed for a successful outcome.
