Big Sur Road Restoration - Help enjoy the beauty!

We live in one of the most beautiful & celebrated places on the Big Sur coast.  From Prewitt Ridge there are unsurpassed views, both north & south, of the entire coast.   The roads into Los Padres Forest are :  > South Coast Ridge Road > Prewitt Ridge Road  > Alms Ridge Road.  These are all 4WD roads, but with the explosion of camping blogs, Facebook & other social media outlets, our area has become well known for camping, hand gliding & hiking.  Many 2 Wheel drive cars are causing deep ruts, tearing up the roads & turning the roads quite dangerous.  It's around $1,500 just for a tow truck to show up in the forest!  This has happened many times already.  Apple Camp, one of our most notorious areas, was actually shut  down for 20 hrs while the CHP monitored the situation thru the night, waiting for a tow truck for a car that was stuck sideways in the road.  Locals & visitors alike were unable to get in or out during this time. The current conditions create danger for all visitors as well as for residents. We are campaigning to raise money for road base & rock.  Our neighbor, Fort Hunter Liggett, is helping supply some of the repair road work, repairing water bars, etc.  Unfortunately, the U.S. Forest Service does not have the budget to maintain the road.  This summer we were able to repair Chalk Peak, our only section of the road that has asphalt.  The asphalt was privately funded.  Several areas are in dire need of repair & can be quite dangerous.  One of the challenges is that we are very remote, so getting rock & base is expensive to transport to our area.  Your donation will help us fund keeping the roads in decent shape so that the local community & visitors alike can safely enjoy our amazing Big Sur Coast.  Please remember to leave no trace!
