Bike for BAM (Build A Miracle)

Bike for BAM is a team raising money for Build a Miracle (BAM), a San Diego-based charity that provides housing, educational programs, and resources to communities in Tijuana, Mexico.

For $20,000 the BAM team, along with local contractors and volunteers, will build a home in Tijuana that is on par with US standards. These houses are not just a temporary housing solution, but homes that can be passed down for generations. With a structurally sound roof over their heads, families can focus on moving themselves and their community forward.

Each family that receives a BAM house has put in hundreds of hours supporting other members of the BAM community, doing everything from childcare and teaching to painting and construction. Most participants even stay involved once their hours are complete, continuing to build homes and participate in other community programs.

Since BAM's founding in 1999, they have built over 490 homes and two large community centers. The community centers provide free meals to over 700 people a week, in addition to accredited adult education, academic support, vocational training, child-care and much more. Having visited a center, I can say firsthand that it is a vibrant and welcoming place that truly functions as the heartbeat of the community.

One of the most impressive parts of this charity is that every dollar donated goes directly to those who need it the most (i.e., no marketing or administrative fees). As an added bonus, donors (including you!) have the option to go down to Tijuana and actually help build the home you helped fund. Build days are an amazing opportunity to see the impact of your work and build a deeper connection with the community.

Bike for BAM supports this amazing work by organizing bike rides of all levels, from beginner to advanced.
