Bikes for Ukraine!

If you like bikes and bike-friendly cities and want to help the people of Ukraine - this is the crowdfunder for you!

Help give the people of Ukraine their cycling freedom. Ukrainian cities need bikes NOW, for a variety of reasons. I am crowdfunding donations that will help me send bikes from Western Europe to people who need bikes now. Your donation helps us send bikes to Ukrainian cities.

In Lviv, the city is hosting 200,000 internally displaced people who have fled the war zones. The city's public transport can't handle the extra people. Our bike help refugees get around - mothers, kids, you name it.

In cities like Bucha, Borodyanka and Chernihiv, buildings and streets have been bombed. People come to the cities from the country to get food and humanitarian aid, but the roads are hard to navigate in motor vehicles, the Russians stole or destroyed all public transport and there is a gas shortage. Bikes are a lifeline in these areas.

When the City of Lviv asked me to help them source bikes in April 2022, it was a no-brainer.

‘Of course! Count me in!’ I responded immediately.

Many people in Copenhagen have an extra bike in their backyard or garage and they can donate them to us.

Not only do we have more bikes than people here in Copenhagen, we scrap 400,000 every year in Denmark. In Copenhagen alone, over 30,000 bikes are gathered up by the city and the police each year.

So Bikes4Ukraine was formed to answer the need. We're a Danish non-profit collecting donations to finance shipping donated bikes to Ukraine. The first shipment left Copenhagen on 3 July and we are now scaling up for more shipments.

We want to get 2000 bikes for Ukraine from Copenhagen. Or more. After summer, we will try to set up bike collections in other European cities, as well.
