Bill and Ginger Garrity Hope Fund

Hi everyone,

My name is Amber Bohn, and I am Bill Garritys step daughter. I have started this fund raiser to help my mom and Bill financially during a time when money should be the last thing on anyone's mind.

On Sunday October 3rd Bill had an accident in his home which resulted in needing to be lift flighted from the local ball fields where they live to a trauma center. Bill fell down just two steps and landed in such a way that the disc between c3 and c4 vertebrae was torn and hemorrhaging which caused his spinal cord to swell. Because of these injuries Bill had an operation to remove the damaged disk, they used a titanium plate, bone graft, and screws to stabilize his neck.

At this point Bill is unable to feel anything below his shoulders. His first operation was a success, and each day since has only brought positive steps forward.

Soon he will head to an inpatient intensive rehabilitation program for four weeks. During this time my mom will be driving atleast 1.5 hours each way to be with him during his rehab and therapies. When he completes that program, he will head home to St. Claire PA, but will need 12 to 18 months of out patient therapies at the same rehab facility location. This means a lot of driving for mom for the foreseeable future.

Now for the not fun stuff :[ not that any of this is fun...

Mom is on disability and it is a very limited amount monthly. Bill has been working for the Auditor General as a Clerk 3 for 25.5 years, so he should be able to apply for short term disability, then possibly social security disability if he doesn't qualify through work. But this leaves my mom on a super limited income and driving A LOT. I can't imagine their savings will cover all of that, living expenses, groceries, for very long. Right now these are the most immediate needs. In the next few weeks we will begin to see what is needed for Bills care.

*Bill needs a ramp in the next four weeks so that he is able to go home and begin to figure out what life will be like for them. * big concern.

It is likely that he will need another vehicle with a lift as well.

Right now we are hopefully, but there is no guarantee that he will feel anything below the shoulders. He is a fighter and he is ready to put the work in!
