Work hard and push through the pain. Two things my dad has taught me and my siblings our entire life through words and actions as he worked day (and night sometimes). As many of you know he was a flooring master for over 40 years and he passed that on to an endless number of people, me included.
In April, Dad was helping me lay floor tile and he told me to finish laying the last couple of tiles. After about 10 minutes of not seeing him, I found him laying on the floor in another room. Naturally, l gave him a hard time and told him I never got paid to lay down on the job so neither would he. Little did any of us know that the knee discomfort he had been experiencing for a couple of years had finally "grew" enough to cause a deep dive into his health. Through many grueling tests and procedures, mom and dad finally got some answers that he had a very rare type of bone marrow cancer with some other supporting issues intertwined.
For most of 2020 mom and dad have been traveling back and forth to the world-renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN for treatment. The goal is to get him to and through a bone marrow transplant in the hopes that his body will start producing "good" cells with the fresh bone marrow. He has and will continue to go through rounds of chemo, possibly radiation treatment, and every scan imaginable multiple times through.
Dad is doing his part by continuing to push through the pain and work hard to overcome the lack of diet, sleep, and everything else that comes with cancer and recovery. My hope is to also show him that being vulnerable and receiving help is also just as good. He lives for his grandkids. As they continue to grow in number and size, he continues to teach them the same values he has passed on to his kids.
Dad has always been a role model for all of us. He has taught us all how to laugh and more importantly remember people, not by their real names, but a nickname. If you choose to donate and are comfortable, please leave your name (or nicknames for you lucky ones) so Billy can get a good laugh through this process.
Please do not feel obligated to share monetarily, if you would like to help in any other way please contact one of us!
THANK YOU!
