Disability Filibuster 2023
Donation protected
Since we first launched this Filibuster Against Bill C-7 in 2021, our message has been consistent: We don't want assisted death, we want supported LIFE!
Two years ago, in 2021, we produced a ROUND THE CLOCK Zoom broadcast , featuring the diverse voices, art, scholarship, thoughts and lived reality of people with disabilities from coast-to-coast-to-coast. To make this broadcast 100% accessible, donors like you enabled us to pay ASL/LSQ interpreters, translators, tech professionals and other enabling folks to help us produce a DISABILITY FILIBUSTER AGAINST BILL C-7. We lost that round, but the fight continues. Track 2 MAiD is now law in Canada. It "privileges" disabled people with "special" access to medically assisted death even though we're not dying! This is dangerous, discriminatory and wrong.
Our ultimate goal is to repeal this law and instead start funding the things we really need to live a dignified life:
- community housing supports,
- income supports, including equitable COVID-19 relief
- personal care supports;
- technology supports
- education, employment and transportation supports
- timely mental health services (No long waiting lists!)
- pain management
- suicide prevention measures
- equal access to palliative care when we are, in fact, dying.
Kill Track 2 MAiD, not US!
