Bill Jungers Assistance Fund
Donation protected
Due to his traumatic brain injury caused by a traffic accident in Madagascar in mid-July, Bill (my father) and his family (wife, Patti and three kids aged 9, 6 and 6) are immediately relocating to central Ohio for his treatment and rehabilitation.
While his upcoming medical expenses are sure to be overwhelming, this fundraiser is geared towards the immediate financial needs of moving a family of five to the United States from Madagascar. These funds will help defray the costs of plane tickets purchased at last
minute prices (flights from Diego to Antananarivo, from Tana to the USA and from the US port to Ohio) and other transportation, as well as their initial housing costs. We have secured short term accessible housing for the family through mid-September (Airbnb) and a lease on an apartment for a year after that.
There are so many ways that Dad’s/Bill’s community of friends and colleagues have already come out to support him and the family. Please know that a financial contribution is only one way to support—so if this isn’t an option for you at this time, it is understood. Thank you in advance for each and every way that you have shown that he, Patti and the kids are loved and supported.

Below is my my original Facebook message describing the situation:

This is a message on behalf of Bill Jungers, my father, who asked that I share this information/update.
Just over two weeks ago, Bill (Dad) was involved in a serious traffic accident in Diego, Madagascar (his home). As he rode his quad bike in downtown Diego, he was struck by a van and thrown from the quad. His most serious injury was a blow to the head that required immediate medical attention. He was conscious upon arrival at the hospital. The doctor then performed a craniectomy to relieve pressure on his brain. In other words, part of his skull was removed to allow room for the swelling. (His scar is super impressive, to be honest.)
He spent a couple of weeks in the hospital, regaining consciousness again following surgery. He is cognitively sound, completely aware and is talking. That’s all *really* good news. He was incredibly lucky that his injury was not worse and that he was able access immediate and acute medical care. Of course, his kick-ass wife Patti was at his side throughout this ordeal. She not only made sure that he got the best care possible but also that the van driver would answer for his actions.
He was able to return to his home in Madagascar a couple of days ago. Mboty, Mahery and Mandresy were thrilled to have their father home again. His current reality is that, due to the injury, he has lost effective use of the left side of his body. He is currently bed (and chair) bound but we are optimistic that he can make a full, or near full, recovery with proper care. Patti has arranged for physical therapy in their home for the time being.
The next steps are big, but important. Bill, Patti and the kids plan to relocate for rehabilitation to the United States (Ohio, specifically) as soon as mid to late August. There is a world class Traumatic Brain Injury rehabilitation program at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus. Matthew Jungers and I are closing in on an apartment for them to rent, located just a few minutes from our homes. The kids will be registered for school for the year in Ohio. With any luck, this is intended to be a temporary (one year) stay Stateside.
Bill is not currently using his Facebook or email, so if you would like to get in touch, please reach out to Patti (at her Mboty JoeLee account) or to Matt or to me and we will be sure to pass on your message. Matt and I video chat with Dad and Patti almost every day. As other significant updates come up, I will post them.
Hug your loved ones tight and don’t take a moment for granted. And please send love and healing to Bill/Dad/Grandpa/Dr. J. ❤️
