Dear Family, Friends and Loved Ones. It is with absolute broken hearts that we share with you that on Thursday, February 2, 2023, Bill Kenneway, beloved husband, devoted father, and loving brother and friend, passed away tragically and very unexpectedly in a car accident following a medical emergency driving home from work that day. His family are now living in utter devastation trying to cope without their dear husband and father and the huge emptiness they will forever feel without him physically present in their lives any longer. No one expects an unforeseen tragedy like this to happen. It’s the last thing any of us could have imagined, especially to someone like Bill, who had so much more love to share with his family, so many more hugs and kisses and “I Love You’s” to shower them with. In fact, not a day went by when Bill wouldn’t call his wife Lisa on his ride home to catch up on each other’s day. Lisa knew something was amiss when she didn’t receive her call on his ride home February 2nd. Gone much too soon.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Lisa, and three children, twins Laura and Joe (students at Syracuse University and Purdue University, respectively), and Lindsay (a high school senior), Jina, close friend Jim, his brothers, sisters, 3 dogs (Scooby, Benny, and Laney), work family, and community. His devotion and enormous love for his family are what made him so special. His family are the most warm and kind and loving people, no surprise, because they are an extension of Bill. Bill was fiercely proud of his children. No matter what the subject being discussed, it would always come back to his kids. He was at every sporting event for the girls - basketball and softball, predominantly; and of course, Boy Scouts, which he did with his son.
Bill had a heart larger than this universe. Bill served our country in the Navy, living and serving in Japan and Hawaii and ultimately retiring from the Navy as a Senior Chief after more than 20 years in the service, earning numerous awards including Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Navy Battle "E" Ribbon, and Navy Unit Commendation. He then joined the Telecommunications team at the Veterans Administration Boston Healthcare System in 2011, where he worked until his passing. He was valued by the Boy Scouts of America as an Assistant Scout Master and Unit Commissioner and was a long-time well-known fixture on the South Shore. Anyone that had the pleasure to come in contact with Bill can attest that he undoubtedly made this world a better place because he was in it.
His family is always quick to talk about the big softie Bill was at home. He was happy hanging out watching 90-Day Fiancé, Hallmark movies, building things (like the most secure chicken coop ever!), and renovating anything and everything. Having lived in Japan and Hawaii while in the service, he was a lover of Asian food and enjoyed cooking Asian meals and grilling. Bill was a collector, particularly of napkins from the VA that would make it home in his pockets and onto the dinner table!
By contributing to this GoFundMe, you will be supporting the Kenneway family in their long journey ahead. Let’s all ensure that the joy and zest for life that Bill has created for his family continues in his honor. He wanted nothing more than to see his children graduate college and enter adulthood prepared to conquer the world! Any contribution to their futures is appreciated by all, especially Bill's extended family and friends who care deeply about Lisa, Laura, Joe and Lindsay.
