Bill King COVID-19 Recovery

My sister Maureen and her husband Bill King recently moved to Commerce, GA when Bill got a job there as Public Works Director.  We were sad to see them leave Raleigh but happy for this great opportunity and shared their excitement when they closed on a great 1920’s bungalow  a week ago (June 12th, 2020). As is often the case with an older home, it wasn’t exactly move-in ready, but Bill is handy and had plans to finish it up over the next month before moving in. Then over the following weekend we began hearing unusual reports from Maureen that Bill wasn’t feeling well, having trouble sleeping and breathing overnight.  By Monday morning Maureen sounded exhausted and we were relieved to hear she had taken Bill to a hospital in Athens, GA.  Bill was admitted immediately for COVID-19, the next morning was put on a ventilator, and Maureen understandably has been beside herself with worry for Bill’s future.  Today Bill is still in ICU on a ventilator, getting excellent state-of-the-art medical care and we’re very optimistic he’ll make a full recovery, but there is still great uncertainty. 

After much careful deliberation I’ve decided to create this fund as a way to help Maureen move into their new house in Commerce and get it ready for Bill’s homecoming.  As you can imagine, she is overwhelmed with trying to figure out how to get the house finished and move their things in, so that Bill will have a comfortable place to come home to as he recuperates. In addition, they are facing unknown medical expenses as Bill’s insurance through his new job has an enrollment delay and seems unlikely to cover hospitalization.  

So many people know Bill and Maureen and I thought this fund would be the most meaningful way to show our love and appreciation for all the joy they’ve brought to our lives over so many years.  Anyone who knows Bill knows his zest for life and his generous, gregarious and loving spirit.  He’s not out of the woods yet, but this fund should help relieve many of the worries and burdens Maureen is now facing, and help her make positive plans for their future together.
