Hello, my name is William. I am a traveling superintendent for a commercial construction company. A few months back (while out of town) during some routine bloodwork, my PSA (prostate specific antigen) levels came back as elevated. I went back the following week to repeat the test and again it came back as elevated. Next was the DRE and it was determined that a "suspicious growth" was on my prostate. At that point, the doctor ordered a biopsy which came back as positive for prostate cancer. My wife flew in the next day to be with me. The doctor ordered a radical prostatectomy to be performed as soon as the swelling from the biopsy was gone. My surgery was 16-NOV and I am not cleared to be back at work until 29-DEC. The surgery was performed in Birmingham , AL as I had intended to return to work immediately after. My health insurance only pays 80% and the medical bills have already begun to pile up. From the biopsy to the prostate removal to the overnight stay in the hospital it has become overwhelming. My wife and I, and my road traveling pup, will be driving back to our home in AZ this week since the catheter was just removed days ago
This has certainly been a life altering experience. Though I was relatively healthy with my exercise and eating habits and no "vices", it was shocking to receive the news and has been a surreal and humbling experience. Any donations would be used to pay off medical bills and offset the loss of income due to not being able to return to work. Anything left will be donated to another in need. Any advice and words of encouragement from survivors would be greatly appreciative. God bless and thank you!
