Bill McGlone’s Cedars-Sinai "Brain Lift" Surgery

Donation protected
We are grateful for everyone’s support over the past nine years. It has been such a long journey for Bill and we hope this is the final stop. Bill has seen some of the world’s experts at Penn, Johns-Hopkins, and Jefferson and his symptoms have only gotten worse. Bill is now traveling to Cedars-Sanai Medical Center in Los Angeles for a procedure that we are desperately hoping will end his suffering and pain. The money raised here will be used for his trip to LA including the air fare, lodging, commute and hospital expenses. Bill will be in LA for roughly 3 weeks, departing on January 6th. He has his initial testing scheduled for January 7th, followed by a CSF (Cerebrospinal Fluid) Repair on January 10th where they will place blood patches on his brain to find a fluid leak, and finally a craniotomy on January 16th to “lift” his brain. Details of a successful surgery performed at Cedars-Sinai for a similar case to Bill found here: Brain Lift Surgery

As many of you are aware, Bill McGlone has been suffering from chronic back pain and low-pressure headaches. He wakes up with a headache and back pain every morning and it only gets worse as the day moves forward, finding relief only by sleeping or bending over (if you’ve seen Bill in the past few years, you’ve undoubtedly seen him hunched over). Diagnosed with Neurosarcoidosis in 2014, he has been through several brain surgeries starting with a life-saving craniectomy when his brain swelled in September of 2014. His skull was removed and then placed back into his head several months later. Due to deterioration, his skull had to be removed again and replaced with a metal plate. Finally, he had a chiari malformation surgery in May of 2021. Although the initial response to this surgery seemed promising (headache relief, his eye didn’t sag any longer), Bill has had a dramatic decline ever since. His pain is persistent and severe, his short-term memory is shot, and completing simple tasks has become a daunting challenge for Bill both physically and mentally. He has not been able to work in almost two years and is missing precious time being a capable father to his two young children as well as living a normal life we are all accustomed to.

This trip/procedure is hopefully the life-altering cure we have been searching for. We know so many people have already given so much (it takes a village). We are incredibly excited to get our Bill back and are beyond grateful for any contributions you are able to make. Thank you so much for all of your support, thoughts, and prayers.
