Biomedical Engineering Study Abroad in Galway, IE

Hi everyone! My name is Michelle Morales and I am a 3rd year biomedical engineering student at Georgia Tech and will be graduating next spring with my bachelors! Currently, I am doing research with pediatric and fetal valves through the Cardiovascular Fluid Mechanics Laboratory and am thoroughly enjoying every second of it. After graduation, I plan to go into industry and land a job in cardiovascular devices. This summer I plan to participate in a 10 week study abroad program in Ireland through Georgia Tech's Department of Biomedical Engineering. This program offers amazing career and networking opportunities for BME students, such as myself, who plan to work in the medical device industry as Ireland is the hub for medical device companies such as Medtronic, Abbot, Boston Scientific, and many more. These companies are the dream for any biomedical engineering student. With this being said, I plan on taking 9 credit hours of required coursework on this study abroad program while visiting medical companies located in Ireland. I am currently at Georgia Tech on scholarships, but they do not cover summer semesters. This program is $6000 which will cover housing and food (4 days a week, 3 meals a day) and my tuition will be fully covered through the Zell Miller/HOPE scholarship. My parents have covered my plane ticket and will cover food for the 3 days I do not receive in my meal plan. I have applied to other scholarships for this summer and have received $4000, so I am still short $2000. I currently do not work as I am a full-time student doing research but plan to pick up a couple of small jobs between now and then to help cover additional costs. I am asking for contributions to allow me to make the best of this opportunity without putting additional financial stress on my family. I want to thank everyone in advance for any contribution made and for any words of encouragement given!
