A Smart Mask for COVID-19

At a time when the nation’s health and economy have been put at stake by the soaring numbers of COVID-19 cases, it is crucial that the burden on healthcare professionals be alleviated. With hospital overcrowding comes an increased risk for transmission of viral particles in waiting areas of high density. In these settings, including emergency rooms, patients may end up waiting 4-12 hours before medical care is provided. Interventions that enable providers to administer targeted patient care are much needed during the COVID-19 pandemic and promise to improve efficiency in healthcare settings in the long run. 

We are Vita Innovations, a new biomedical innovation startup based at Cornell that is focused on creating a smart mask that monitors patient vitals to combat ER overcrowding while preventing the transmission of airborne disease. Our project has already won the grand prize at the 7th annual AI Health Hackathon in NYC  due to its applications to the COVID-19 pandemic, and we are excited to move forward with this idea as a startup. Through numerous conversations with healthcare professionals, we have verified the clinical need for our innovation. We are determined to make a difference but need YOU to help us get started.

We’re looking to raise $3000 to help us kickoff with initial startup costs, including funds for research, development, and outreach that will enable us to market our product as soon as possible. Launching a startup is no easy task, but with your help, we are determined to bring forth our passion to reach our goal.
