Brian's Bionic Leg
July 19th 2009 I was the victim of an unprovoked assault. At barely 32, I worked sucessfully as a Senior Quantity Surveyor for a UK building firm Bowmer & Kirkland. My life was changed beyond recognition as a victim of a single punch. I sustained a massive brain bleed which rendered me unconscious and after emergency neuro surgery I temained in a coma for 4 months and in rehab for 6 months. My brain injury left me completely blind, disabled, and wheelchair-dependent. I had to learn how to eat, how to speak, and I'm still learning how to walk again. This is where it is very challenging. The lack of my sight makes this extra hard. Also, due to my brain injury my brain needs to find new neuropathways to transmit signals to my left leg. This is where the Alter G bionic leg will help me to gain the ability and confidence to be more independent and mobile.
I am currently trialling this bionic leg. The cost to purchase one is extremely high, at €16,000
If you can help me achieve my goal I would be so grateful. Thank you!
