IMMEDIATE CALL TO ACTION
Birthworkers with privilege: Put your money where your mouth is.
To quote Meenadchi, "Reparations are a practice of liberation. Systems of supremacy make it so that some people are able to hoard material resources. Hoarding material resources provides a false sense of safety for some, and a collective loss of care for all. Redistributing hoarded resources is not an act of charity. It is an investment to rebuilding collective relationship."
Making a commitment to working within the Reproductive Justice framework means that we are always actively and collectively working for access, equity and liberation.
BIPOC Birthworkers are sacred. BIPOC Birthworkers are vital. BIPOC Birthworkers matter.
We must create and sustain access to training and support for BIPOC Birthworkers.
We've received more requests for doula training scholarships from Black, Indigenous and POC aspiring Birthworkers this last month than we ever have before.
As you know, COVID-19 is disproportionately impacting BIPOC folks in countless ways, and the financial impact is creating even more barriers to accessing training. In the past, we have been able to fund scholarships for most folks who request them, fully out of pocket. We rarely receive donations to our scholarship fund, and have made the commitment to paying forward scholarships with or without the funding. But, with the increased need we just can't cover all of the need ourselves.
This is where you come in.
We are fundraising to cover the full tuition of our BIPOC only Culturally Diverse Full Spectrum Birthkeeper Training, plus Business Essentials for Birthworkers Training for 22 BIPOC Birthworkers. + 5 Business Essentials tuitions for already trained BIPOC Birthworkers who need this course.
We're calling on you, community. We have 5,224 followers on Instagram. If each one of you donated $23.00 we would meet this goal. Now is the time to keep up the momentum of your giving and your activism.
Please share this campaign far and wide.
If you have any questions about the training specifics, please send a direct email to Queen Jazz-Ylaine Baptiste.
The specifics on how we'll be using the funds:
All donations will go directly into our scholarship fund, which 100% covers tuition for the BIPOC only Doula Training Program, run and led by Jazz-Ylaine Baptiste. Interested students can apply for scholarships directly here: www.cornerstonedoulatrainings.com/scholarships
When a student requests a scholarship, we pay for the course 100% with these funds, and they gain access to the program at no cost.
What classes cost -- what is needed to cover a full scholarship:
BIPOC Only Full Spectrum Culturally Diverse Birthkeeper Training: $2397
Business Essentials for Birthworkers: Birthing Your Business: $2497
We've already awarded 4 full scholarships with the funds raised!!! Let's keep this going :)
