Thank You From the Tacoma ArtCity Delegation to Indonesia

ArtCity 2024 is a delegation composed of some of Tacoma’s most visionary BIPOC artists and policy makers, each of whom believe strongly in the potency of Tacoma’s creative economy.

This June, internationally acclaimed Tacoma artist Anida Yoeu Ali will lead 2017-19 poet laureate/visual artist Kellie Colemon (formerly Richardson), musician and Tacoma Arts Commissioner Joe Williams, creative entrepreneur and gallerist Dion Thomas, Tacoma City Councilperson and filmmaker Jamika Scott, and writer/editor Jesi Vega to the ARTJOG art fair in Yogyakarta (Jogja), Indonesia.

These cultural ambassadors will spend two weeks meeting with Jogja city officials, creative business owners, curators, artists and art collectives, making this trip an immersive case study of a modern city which values the creative capital provided by its artists and has utilized that capital to forge a thriving creative economy.

Like each one of the artists handpicked for this journey, the folks at ARTJOG are committed to eroding barriers that limit the practice and enjoyment of art while growing and maintaining a strong network of artists, policymakers, and the public.

The ArtCity delegates are dreaming big because they believe strongly in our vision of Tacoma as a cultural destination for the rest of the world. As they travel internationally they will proudly carry Tacoma everywhere they go and will return with inspiring ideas to catapult Tacoma's art scene onto the global stage. Will you help?

It will cost $20,000 to send 6 of us to Jogja & Jakarta so we are spreading the word and seeking support from everyone who cares about invigorating Tacoma's art scene.
