Bird's Brain Fund

If you are visiting to this page, you are one of the thousands of people that have had the privilege of meeting and sharing a part of your life with my uncle, David Oates (AKA. Bird). There are no words to accurately describe how incredible this man is. David has always put the needs of everyone around him before himself and strives to make each life he touches a little bit better.

As you most likely know, David has been going through a very trying time. In November he was diagnosed with an extremely rare epidermoid tumour in his brain. This 9cm mass has likely been growing for his entire life and over the last several years has had major impacts on various aspects of his life. On December 18th, two neurosurgeons worked for 7.5 hours on what the lead surgeon described as “the hardest surgery of his entire career” (literally, the first words he spoke when he came into the waiting room post-surgery).

David is currently recovering at Groves Memorial Hospital in Fergus and has a long journey of rehabilitation ahead of him. However, David is not alone in this journey. He is surrounded by a loving and steadfast group of his four children, family, friends and most of all, his INCREDIBLE wife, Christine. Chris has put everything on hold to ensure that David is getting the best care possible and remains supported 100% of the time through his recovery.

David and Chris are two of the most kind, compassionate and strong people that I know. While this all takes an incredible emotional toll on them, it also takes a financial toll. A year ago, as a direct result of the tumour, David lost his job and all benefits. David has not been able to – and will not be able to work for quite some time. This is where your help comes in. In order to continue to focus on recovery, rather than stress about finances, we have set up this Go Fund Me to help alleviate some of the financial toll that is being put on them.

Thank-you so much for taking the time to read and to consider donating to help this family who truly means so much to all of us.
