Support Dylan's Great Gull Island Bird-A-Thon Fundraiser
Donation protected
Hi!
I am Dylan and I live in New York City. I am 13 years old and will be participating in a Birdathon on May 11, 2024 with my friends at Slow Birding Saturday to raise money for the Great Gull Island Project. I am hoping you can support me!
Your donation to the Great Gull Island Project Fundraiser will directly support the work of the American Museum of Natural History, allowing them to continue their restoration of this island. Each year in May, a Birdathon is held to benefit the project. Birders like me ask people to sponsor them for the event by pledging any amount per species found. Pledges can be any amount from 5 cents to $1 per bird! Depending on the day, we may find 20 species or if we are lucky 65 species! You can make a pledge here in this Google Pledge Form and after the event, I will list the birds I have found and you may then make a donation. You can of course also just place a flat donation too!
I like birds because they are unique in so many ways. In New York City, I am constantly surrounded by buildings and cars but I can still occasionally hear the chirp of a small sparrow in a tree, trying to make itself heard. I would occasionally see colorful birds such as red cardinals and blue jays which are cool things to see and make me happy. I see bird's impact on everyday life too. When I was on vacation last month in Japan, I saw the design of the front of a bullet train which is based on a kingfisher’s beak. The beak allows the kingfisher to dive with high speeds barely making a splash. By implementing this onto the new bullet trains, it let the trains run much faster, while causing them to become much more fuel efficient. Shamans from tribes considered birds as spiritual helpers, and now, we are using birds as inspiration for our modern day creations. I think birds are very special and that we should protect them.
This fundraiser is the only way this project gets money to continue restoring the island, so these donations help a lot! May main goal is to bring as much awareness to people as possible so every tiny donation counts towards my goal! Maybe you can comment where on you are located too!
Thank you very much!
Dylan
P.S. If you email me your name and address, I will submit to Great Gull Island Project (GGIP is a 501C3 entity) and they will give you a receipt for tax deduction.
