Help build new classrooms in Nepal
Hello everyone, for many years Birkdale School, in Sheffield, has gone out to Nepal on a most wonderful and life informing trip. Each year, the student team make a huge effort to raise funds, to support educational and poverty alleviation projects. This year is no different!
Here you can see Tom and Simon with students of the Peace Garden School on last years trip. The classrooms in the background are the ones that were put up, for temporary measures, after the 2015 earthquake that shook the city. Replacing these will be this years big project.
Students and teachers of Birkdale School will be going out to Nepal again, over the Easter holidays of 2024, to work alongside our Nepalese friends. We are aiming to raise funds that will support a range of ongoing projects with RNV Nepal https://rnvnepal.co.uk/ .
Annual eyesight tests to support the purchasing of glasses for students; teacher training places to support the growing success of the Peace Garden School; new infrastructure, like roof replacements on the Noble school (see the two pictures below) and further projects to alleviate poverty. There is so much to do!
The Noble school in process of having a secure roof built, to weather the storms and stop the classrooms being flooded.
The Noble schools new roof, welded in place and watertight. It's simple, but sound projects like this make it possible for the children in this area to go to school on a regular basis.
This year’s big project is to raise enough funds to support a new earthquake resistant classroom block, at the Peace Garden School. The Peace Garden Schools success in national examinations has meant that its services are increasingly in demand. Still dedicated to serving the poorest in the community, around Kokhana village, in Kathmandu, this project will help the Peace Garden School increase its capacity and improve its facilities.
The picture above shows the temporary classrooms, in yellow and green, that were established after the 2015 earthquake. These are some of the classrooms that Birkdale students deliver their lessons in when we visit at Easter. Your donation will help to directly fund the development of new, earthquake resistant, classrooms that will also increase the Peace Garden Schools overall capacity.
RNV Nepal has is closely linked with Birkdale School. The charity was founded by people, working both in Sheffield and Kathmandu, who had fostered this relationship over many years. The trustees reflect this international relationship and aim to make direct actions in relation to education and poverty.
At Birkdale school, education is what we believe in and we recognise the privileged position we have in this world. It is important to our school and community that we support others in their pursuit of education and a happy life. If you feel you can support us in this endeavour, please donate to support RNV Nepal.
