Birth Defects and Cancer Challenge Baby and Mom

Don protégé

Baby Isaac, Who Has Birth Defects and Mom Stacey, Who Has Breast Cancer Face Heart-Wrenching Challenges Together.

Our son, Brian and his wife, Stacey, went through two hard and painful rounds of IVF to finally get pregnant after 8 ½ years of marriage. They were so excited to finally, after so long, bring this wonderful baby into their family. Baby Isaac was born, but there were problems, so he had to be taken to a children’s hospital for the entire first week of his life for a lot of testing to figure out what was going on.

Isaac was born with a rare birth defect that affects some external and some internal body parts. Brian, Stacey, and Isaac are currently working with a team of doctors to find treatments for Isaac’s birth defects. Isaac will have to go to a specialist in Texas three times in the next year for reconstructive surgeries. The first one will be in a couple of months. Isaac will need to be there for several days for the surgery and the aftercare. Costs for the surgery expenses, lodging, flights, food, and transportation will add up for their family. Also in the future, Brian, Stacey, and the doctors will be able to find out what’s going on internally as Isaac gets bigger and is strong enough to go through diagnostic procedures. There will be additional surgeries in the future to take care of those problems too.

While nursing little 6-month-old Isaac, Stacey, at 32 years old, found a lump in her breast. She had a biopsy done and was devastated to learn that it was cancerous. She underwent surgery a couple of weeks ago to remove the lump, and was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer. She had to quit nursing which shattered her heart, and she couldn’t even hold her precious little Isaac for days. Stacey will need to go through chemotherapy treatments, and radiation soon to fight the breast cancer. Her doctors have told her she won’t be well enough to travel with Isaac for his surgery. She is crushed that she won’t be able to be there to hold her baby close or comfort him after his surgery.

Brian and Stacey sold their house recently and moved in with her family, which has been so good to have the extra care and help for Stacey and Isaac. Brian is trying to keep up with the demands of a new job, taking care of their baby, while figuring out the logistics for Isaac’s surgeries in Texas, and taking care of his wife, to help her get to appointments and get the rest that she needs. Stacey is doing what she needs to do to get better, and she is trying her best to take care of Isaac as much as she is able to. This is a strong little family that has always done what they needed to do, and has been very independent. Now, they have been given two tough trials, and they need the help and generosity of others to be able to make it through them.

Please help us rally around Brian, Stacey, and Isaac to lighten their financial burden during this challenging time in their lives. Even a small amount can help with the surgeries for Isaac, and the breast cancer treatments for Stacey. They will humbly accept this help, and are very appreciative of it.
