Birth Queen - Empower Black Families

When founder Rachel Nicks met Jyesha Wren in 2020 and learned of the incredible work she was doing with BElovedBirth Black centering she knew she wanted to support this work in her hometown of Oakland, CA. Birth Queen is thrilled and honored to announce we have partnered with BElovedBirth Black centering with the goal of pouring resources into the program to help scale this model locally and nationally. BElovedBIRTH Black Centering, aka Beloved:

Beloved is a revolutionary new “by us for us” group perinatal care program in Oakland California, designed to honor and celebrate Black birthing people while preventing racism from harming our health in pregnancy and beyond. Launched at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and grounded in the birth justice movement, Beloved provides a holistic and comprehensive “Gold Package of Black Love”. As a powerful collaboration between Alameda Health System and the Alameda County Public Health Department; Beloved is transforming Black perinatal care from within our safety-net healthcare system.

BElovedBIRTH launches a new Centering group of 8-12 mamas every 2 months, and has served over 100 families so far. Early evaluation of the program’s impact on participant experiences and birth outcomes shows…

Our founder, Rachel Nicks knows how challenging it can be to do incredible work, fundraise, amplify, grow, and create lasting change. She founded Birth Queen to support organizations such as BElovedBirth Black Centering. We are just getting started and have an intricate and robust plan for change. We are confident that with our passion, commitment, and 360 degree approach we WILL end the Black maternal health crisis and ensure every Black family and Black birth worker feels supported and empowered to not only survive but thrive.

Donation Tiers

Here are some examples of how your donation can support Beloved’s “Gold-Package of Black Love” wrap-around perinatal services.

Supporting Individual Beloved Mamas:

$20: Pays for 1 box of fresh produce for a Mama

$80: Pays for one complete line of holistic wellness supplies including belly butter, boobie balm, aromatherapy roller balls, and an herbal sitz bath blend for postpartum healing

$150: Pays for 1 lactation specialist visit

$250: Pays for 1 virtual prenatal/postpartum fitness class, accessible to all 100+ Mamas

Supporting groups of Beloved Mamas:

$1000: Pays for 12 Mamas to get complete line of holistic wellness supplies.

$3,000: Pays for all 12 Mamas to get a box of fresh produce at all 15 group visits.

$5,000: Pays for all 12 mamas in a Beloved Black Centering group to get an initial and a follow-up visit with our lactation specialist, when and where they want it (home, virtual, or in office)

$12,000: Pays for 6 months of our fitness class service; providing all 100+ Mamas

$24K: Pays for all 12 mamas in a Beloved Black Centering group to get home deliveries of nourishing restaurant prepared meals for 6 weeks postpartum.
