Birthday Fundraiser for Nancy and Roger Hootman
Donation protected
Every year Facebook asks if I want to raise money for a nonprofit and every year I do. This year I’m turning 30 and actually I’d like to be a little selfish.
Please forward all of my birthday ‘gifts’ to my mom and dad.
In the past, I’ve run hundreds of miles to help sick kids and brides without wedding dresses for charity. I’ve hustled my friends to help animals set to be euthanized. This year, I just want my long-suffering folks to be able to do something nice for themselves, for a change.
My parents are some of the most incredible, generous, kind, and, frankly hilarious people I’ve ever known, and every single one of you who have met them will back me up on that. Everyone who has ever called my mom a friend knows that if they had a dollar for every Facebook ‘like’ or comment left my Nancy Hootman, they’d be Jeff Bezos. Everyone who has ever called my dad a friend knows that if they have had a tough day or week or year and find themselves slumped on our couch, broken and frustrated, that they will be treated to a sympathetic ear, homemade Tex-Mex, and a new cocktail that he just invented while you were talking.
I may be their only child by birth, but they have literally hundreds of ‘adopted kids’ - people for whom the door is always open and the light is always on, people they’d give the shirts off their backs, people they would move mountains for. I honestly aspire to be 1/16th as nice as my folks... and that’s gonna be a struggle for me tbh.
My parents have had a rough couple of years (for about... I’d say... the last 30) and I’d like for them to have something nice, be it a nice dinner at home, or a small trip somewhere, or even just a month where they don’t have to worry as much about the seemingly arbitrary and existential horror of living under capitalism (bills). So, if you have a fiver to spare, leave a donation and maybe also a comment with a nice memory you have of Nancy and/or Roger Hootman.
I set a goal at $3000 because it had the number 30 in it and $300 sounded too low.
Love you Mama and Dada Hoots.
Ok, I’m tearing up while writing this so I’m gonna stop now, ok?
