Birthday Fundraiser to Save More Kittens

Hi there! I'm Amy and this year, for my birthday, I’d like to ask for your help saving more animals.

As a foster caretaker, it's devastating to watch helplessly as a kitten gasps for breath. Unfortunately, it is something I have been through too many times.

See that handsome little dude in the cover photo? That’s Kisu. He was the first kitten to make me wish I could do more from home. Kisu was orphaned, and I was enlisted by a local vet to raise him. One day, he coughed while drinking his bottle and aspirated fluid into his lungs. This caused pneumonia. He required several vet appointments, medications, and hospitalization for oxygen therapy. After 4 days in the hospital, his bill was over $4,000. This scenario is seen often in my line of volunteer work. In some cases, we can get the medications from the vet but still need to administer oxygen or medications via a nebulizer.

As I am the primary neonatal and/or orphan kitten care foster with the Humane Society of Loudoun County I would like the necessary tools to help these kittens in my home. If we can prevent admitting an animal for even 24 hours, we can save the rescue nearly $300 in hospitalization fees, not including medications, tests, treatments, maintenance, etc. It can also help increase the neonatal survival rate and offer a quarantine area for cats who need it.

I’m not a vet. I don’t even play one on tv, but I have fostered nearly 100 kittens and am fortunate to have a circle of support to guide me in my animal care journey. Several veterinarians have generously shared their expertise, empowering me to save as many lives as I can. And the animal care community is full of amazing people who don’t hesitate to share the knowledge amassed during their years in the rescue world.

I've extensively researched what equipment is required for the in-home medical care I wish to provide. The specific items I need are bundled together by the manufacturer. Please see the appendix below for more details.

The sale price before tax and shipping is $2,279.00. The Board of Directors of the Humane Society of Loudoun County has offered to match the first $250 raised. Anything above and beyond what I need for the incubator bundle will be put towards additional supplies to help vulnerable kittens.

Saving those who are small and voiceless means so much to me. They deserve to live happy, healthy lives, and to have someone fight for them. Animals help us through tough times. They are our friends. Appendix: Bundle Info

1 - Pet Brooder 90 Incubator (with the Oxygen/Nebulizer Connectors and Humidity Tubing) - If I would have had this I could have kept Kisu's temperature consistent and his airways moist to break up any build up of mucous. 

1 - EverFlo Oxygen Concentrator - This pulls oxygen from the air and concentrates it to provide a high level without purchasing clunky and dangerous canisters. Kisu was on oxygen until he was released from the hospital. 

1 - Nebulizer with Adapter - Kisu had medications and saline nebulization. This made the medication easier to absorb by the lungs.

1 - 2.5g Water Reservoir - Extra large reservoir so I wouldn't worry about the water running out.
