Cara McCollum founded The Birthday Book Project in her hometown of Forrest City, Arkansas when she was just a teenager.  Her mission was to provide underprivileged children with a new book on their birthdays. Cara said that "if I can place a book in the hands of kids on their birthdays, I can show them what a gift reading can be."
Cara went to college at Princeton University. While at school, she won the tiltle of Miss New Jersey and competed in the Miss America Pageant with a literacy platform.
Shortly after graduating, Cara joined the Millville based SNJ Today News as their lead anchor.
Tragedy struck months later, as Cara died following a car accident.
It is in her honor that the SNJ Today family started The Cara McCollum Birthday Book Project of Southern New Jersey with the help of Cara's family.
With your donation the program will deliever a new, gift wrapped book to elementary public school children. Starting with Cumberland County, kid ages 5 to 11 will benefit from this wonderful program.
