During pride, we march towards acceptance and equality. While this marks the 54th Pride celebration worldwide, in many parts of Africa, advocating for acceptance and equality can lead to imprisonment or death.

We at the Bisi Alimi Foundation, established in 2015, are dedicated to fighting for the rights and social acceptance of LGBTQI individuals in Nigeria. Our vision is a Nigeria where equal rights prevail, offering hope and affirmation to LGBTQI people, assuring them of their worth and acceptance within their communities.

To accelerate social change and acceptance, we formed the Rainbow Academy Program, designed to empower the next generation of LGBTQ+ persons with essential personal and professional skills to influence positive societal change. Since its inception, we have successfully trained over 60 scholars and funded 12 queer-owned businesses with over £7,000 through our Mini-Grant initiative.

This year, we expanded our impact beyond Nigeria to West Africa, welcoming candidates from Ghana, The Gambia, and Liberia into our Rainbow Academy Program for the first time. Our goal is to one day celebrate Pride openly across Africa, and we believe this can be achieved by creating our own Stonewall Inn. Unfortunately, our current resources cannot support the increased number of participants from across the region for our Rainbow Academy Residential Program.
