Sophie's Surgery Fund
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Meghan. I grew up in Chicago, IL and about three years ago i moved to Chico, California. Me and my girlfriend Phylecia adopted a beautiful baby girl pit-bull around this time. She was about a year old when we took her in. Her name is Sophie and she has been one of the best things to happen to us. She is like our daughter in many ways. We always have so much fun with and around her. She is spoiled to say the least. Our whole family gives her unconditional love everyday, and anyone that meets her falls in love immediately. She will be four this year and we couldn't appreciate the time we have had with her more. Phylecia's parents live up in Forest Ranch with about 5 acres of land. Sophie was beside herself to be able to go up there and roam freely. She has dog friends and the space to run and play. She stays up there alot as do we. She is a big ol' baby who loves to cuddle, play and give kisses to everyone as so many pit-bulls do. About two days ago she came back to the house all bloody, limping and crying. It was heartbreaking to say the least. We washed her off and figured an animal had gotten to her. There were no major wounds so we decided to wait until the morning to take her to the vet. We were so very wrong, and we are sick to our stomachs when we found out what actually happened to our baby girl. When the vet came back with her x-rays we had discovered that Sophie had been shot by some cruel human being. The bullet was small and entered her back left thigh and broke her pelvis. The bullet fragments shattered too deeply for them to remove safely. The doctor then began to explain we only had two options for her. She wanted to wait two weeks to see if she got any strength back in that leg. If she does regain any signs of strength and can walk on it then they will proceed to do a HFO, which is a procedure to remove the joint in her leg. She would be more subject to arthritis when she got older but would have all four legs. However if she doesnt regain the use of her leg then they will have to amputate. I have never felt so sick in my life as i did in that vets office as she was explaining all of this. We are devistated by the whole thing. This poor innocent dog is going to suffer for someone's cruel doing and it is just not fair. We are praying hard that she regains some strength so that she can keep her leg. Either way Sophie will have to have surgery. As most of you know that is not cheap. We have already maxed out at the costs of that first visit alone. I am 25, a waitress and trying to put myself through school as Phylecia is doing the same. I have never in my life asked anyone for money or anything for that matter, though now i find myself reaching out in desparation to save Sophie. Anything will help. Big or small. It would be forever appreciated by our baby girl Sophie.
