A message from Addison's mom, Christina:
A week ago on Sunday, September 20th, my 9 year old daughter Addison started to act very strangely.
Addison, Addi for short, has autism and is non-verbal. I could tell she was in pain. She was crying, and could not get up and walk. Her dad and I got her into her bed in her bedroom where she stayed for roughly the next 48 hours until I decided we needed to do something.
I called an ambulance and they came and got Addi. She went to the ER at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, KY. The ER Dr. took X-rays and informed us Addi had a Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis (SCFE) on her right side. This was a total shock to us. We had never even heard of this and she had not had an injury. We were told it just sometimes happens as children grow.
They ended up sending Addison by helicopter to Norton’s Children’s Hospital in Louisville, KY. Once we made it to Louisville, the surgical team said Addison needed to have surgery on both hips. Addi had the surgery, and they added plates and big screws to both hips. Considering everything she has been through, she is doing good.
We are now awaiting approval from insurance to get her into Frazier Rehab Center. Once there, she could stay weeks.
This money will help our family be able to pay for rooms so we can stay in Louisville, KY with our daughter. We live 3.5 hours away in Paducah, KY. Our vehicle needs new tires badly; money for bills, and rent for our house in Paducah. We have no income coming in while we are here by our daughter's side. Addison needs special personal hygiene materials now that she is unable to use both hips.
Our situation is very urgent and completely unexpected. If you can not donate, please send us good thoughts and prayers. Thank you!
