THANK YOU to our members, volunteers, donors and funders and to everyone who has put their blood, sweat, tears into the Brooklyn Shows Love Mutual Aid Project (BKSL) for the last 20 months. We are incredibly proud of all the cooperative, loving ways in which Brooklynites have come together to respond to the COVID pandemic. To date, over 2,383 orders of 7-13 bags of free non-perishable groceries and household supplies have been delivered to 30 Brooklyn neighborhoods since March 2020. We could never have done this work without each and every one of you.
Today, we want to publicly announce the sad and difficult reality that Equality for Flatbush just doesn't have the funds or resources to continue providing free groceries any longer. With food prices now at their highest in 10 years, we have been struggling over the last few months to meet the ever-growing number of people experiencing food insecurity in Brooklyn. While we remain committed to our core mission of fighting to end police murders and displacement of low-to-middle income people in Brooklyn, our BKSL work will end on October 31st 2021. The last date to call and get on the waiting list will be Friday, September 17th at 8pm. Before we end this project, we’ll do our best to connect community members with other resources listed on the 30-page BKSL resource list.
What is urgently needed now until October 31st:
1. Volunteers are needed to field the increasing number of phone calls, to pack grocery orders and to deliver the orders by car . To volunteer : http://bit.ly/bkshowslovevolunteer
2. Participate in the BKSL / COVID Oral History project. The purpose of the BKSL/COVID Oral History Project is to share stories of resilience at great odds and to indict the US government for its continued economic and racial violence throughout the pandemic. This project is open to everyone who wants to talk about the ways in which low-to-middle income New Yorkers, especially people of color, have organized to keep themselves, loved ones and communities safe during this pandemic. We especially want people to tell local, state and federal officials what you and your loved ones need to make it through this unprecedented time. Stay tuned for details.
3. Please continue to Donate to BKSL over the next 2 months . Every $$$ helps to get us to the finish line. To Give or http://bit.ly/BKshowsLoveGOFUND
Since the start of the global COVID pandemic, we have all been part of this emotional roller coaster, both personally and politically. The pandemic has shone a light on racial, economic, gender, etc disparities in the US and why the fight for affordable housing and against police violence is so essential. The pandemic has shown the outright callous negligence and brutal violence of the US government leaving so many of us to economically fend for ourselves. E4F believes that neither we nor any of the grassroots community mutual aid projects across the US should’ve had to shoulder the weight of providing food and basic necessities to our neighbors. At the same time, E4F is proud of the amazing resilience and commitment to having each other's backs that our communities have shown in this time of crisis. We are truly humbled by the strength and revolutionary love of our E4F/BAN family, activists and community for keeping BKSL going for this long.
With revolutionary love
