In light of the current sociopolitical climate in the US it is imperative that BIPOC have access to safe healing spaces. Acupuncture is one of the under utilized healing modalities in Black and Brown communities. However, most melinated individuals are unaware or suspicious of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. The radical history of how the Black Panthers and Young Lords used Acupuncture to heal BIPOC communities has been nearly lost.
That needs to change. We need to know of the power this medicine has to bridge the health inequalities gap BIPOC suffer from in this country. We need to know the effects of toxic stress and that acupuncture can help. We need to know how metabolic syndromes are in part created by our racial battle fatigue and how acupuncture can be a solution. More importantly, we need access to safe spaces and safe faces to recieve treatment.
Blackacupuncturist.com was created to allow BIPOC to find resources and individuals to aid them along the path of wellness. The goal is to be the new face of BAAANA (Black Acupuncture Advisory Association of North America) the orginal Black Acupuncturist group.
