Black Farmer and Environmental Steward

Donation protected

Greetings! My name is Isaiah.

I am a Black farmer and environmental steward who is an active volunteer in the Southeast corridor of San Francisco. We've helped initiate smaller garden spaces (Latona Garden) and activate small projects (Medicinal Herb Garden at Adam Rogers Garden).

We have exciting news! Through Caltrains/Joint Powers Board, we've secured a lease on a new site: a very large space that will be revitalized into a Pollinator Sanctuary, Food Forest and Garden for Peace. We will help support the habitat for local honeybees, native bees, butterflies, birds, moths, insects and amphibians. There's a fruit orchard! We will be building raised beds for growing food to give to our community. I aim to reduce blight and create beautiful spaces for both humans and animals alike. Our team is also currently teaching gardening
courses to elementary school kids in the Bayview and with the Boys and Girls Club of SF. We are teaming up with Willie Brown Elementary as they film this process. We will post pictures! We are a 501c3, and are starting to write grants but would like some immediate support so we can this vision grow! My efforts have been featured in the SF Chronicle and many SF-based podcasts, including StoriedSF. We were invited by Bryant Terry to speak at MoAd. We were recently visited by local
state assemblymen, Shamann Walton and most recently, Ron Finley.

UPDATE May 2023:

We are starting our own Certified Farmers Market at 1550 Evans Avenue at the SouthEast Community Center. In collaboration with SF Public Utilities Commission, we are bringing fresh foods to the neighborhood. We will be using funds to help our struggling vendors out with their application fees, including all the fees and paperwork that needs to be approved by the Department of Ag/SF. Some fees can range into hundreds of dollars, which is unattainable for folks who are starting on their journey. We will also use funds to pay our deejays and musicians. We hope to use funds for programming: paying youth and elders to be Market Ambassadors, and to kick off youth internships with local farmers and entrepreneurs.

June 1st at 3pm (until 7:30p) is the kick-off date.

Thanks! If you are seeking volunteer opportunities, please send me an email. We also want to welcome visitors, so go to the website or our IG: DragonSpunk to coordinate.

Update: November 2023

Isaiah will be teaching food growing and gardening to formerly unhoused residents at HomeRise SF in Mission Bay! One resident has received their Certified Food Producer Certificate and can now sell their micro greens to market/restaurants. Thanks to the guidance of Isaiah.
