Black Land Matters: Help Save a 20 Acre MS Farm

Black Land Matters

What do Black lives need? Land.  The mandate for Black Southern descendants is to return to our indigenous homes to preserve and renew our land and our self-determined ways of living.

Historical and present land theft has stolen 98% of Black land-owners. This systemic attack on Black lives has further disrupted our livelihoods and the preservation of our histories. At the center of all calls for justice, liberation and righteousness must be the return and preservation of land stewarded by our people. This is what we must do.

As we continue the American experience of lynching culture and public executions by law-enforcement we have been reminded of this mandate for securing the futures of our people. A few months ago, an Elder in our MS community transitioned into their ancestor journey. She and her husband worked diligently to care for their family land. This land, that holds her spirit and the stories of her family intact and untouched, has been placed on the market. It is our job to preserve their legacy by purchasing this 20 acre property as an extension of our Black farming and land-based community. The land will be immediately placed into a trust. It will be collectively stewarded as a Southern Agrarian Training Center to teach agricultural and land-based skills for self-determination.

We are asking you to join us as we raise $125,000 to purchase the 20 acre farm debt-free. The property includes a 3bd/2ba house and two barn structures. Acquiring this farm is the beginning step of transformation for the many lives dedicated to its future.

By helping us save this Black-owned farm you are:

1} Preventing the further loss of Black land, Black farmers, and Black culture

2) Investing in the longterm safety and protection of Black lives

3) Demonstrating the possibilities of collective work and land reparations

4) Creating opportunities to train Black youth in agricultural skills

5) Honor the suffering of our ancestors both known and unknown

This is the work of the moment and we thank you in advance for carrying it with us.
