Black Lives of DSM is a community development storytelling project created to amplify Black voices, individually. Our work is about invigorating and chronicling the voices and stories of the Black community in Central Iowa to build a stronger community.
The purpose of this fundraiser is to support and elevate Black voices in Central Iowa by:
* Supporting the creation of events to build the Black community
* Supporting the creation and effort of public art, exhibits, visual murals, and published books
* Supporting the chronicling of Black Iowans for future generations
* Hosting art and educational opportunities and facilitating community discussion
* Creating events that feature local Black talent and vendors
* Supporting a locally lead, unified community response to amplify Black voices
We believe that by sharing individual stories of the Black community, we can bridge gaps and break down barriers that still exist within our streets, schools, businesses and workplaces. We believe that by elevating the stories of Black humans that are our sisters, brothers, teachers, children, mothers, fathers, activists, and leaders; that there can and will be positive change and understanding within Central Iowa to bring further growth and unity between our communities.
Please consider lending some support to allow our community to listen, learn, elevate and amplify the Black voices and create vibrant community in Des Moines and Central Iowa.
