Black Mt Hist District Preservation
Donation protected
The citizens of Black Mountain are raising money to cover the costs of hiring an attorney to defend the decision of the Black Mountain Historic Preservation Commission, which denied an application by Joseph Cordell to build a three-story building (the Trestle Building) and a two-story addition to the Icehouse on Broadway Street in the Historic District because those buildings did not comply with the Historic District guidelines. Mr. Cordell has hired an Asheville attorney to appeal that decision to the Zoning Board of Adjustment on November 16, 2017. The attorney opposing Mr. Cordell's appeal must represent a person who has "standing" under the statute -- i.e., one of the businesses impacted negatively by the new building. That person for this appeal will be John Richardson, owner of the Ale House. The attorney's fees John will be incurring will benefit all of the citizens of Black Mountain who care about the preservation of the integrity of the Historic District Guidelines. Therefore, we are asking for contributions to help fund the costs of these attorney fees, estimated to be approximately $5000. If we collect more than we need to cover the attorney fees, the amount remaining in the GoFundMe Account after the attorney fees will be donated to the Black Mountain Beautification Committee.
