Black Owned CSA Farm Starting in Minnesota
Donation protected
My name is Zedé Harut. I am a young mother, herbalist, community organizer, and farmer. Grand Risings Farm is a longheld family dream that I am driven to fulfill this upcoming season.
Black farmers have been the backbone of American agriculture for hundreds of years. Over the years, systemic racism has threatened the livelihood of black farmers to the point that, according to the United States Department of Agriculture, less than two percent of all farms in the country are owned or operated by African-Americans. In Minnesota, that number is just .03 percent.
Grand Risings Farm is revitalizing the Black farming legacy in Minnesota with a team of a growing family of Black farmers who have a mutual passion for food justice, collective liberation, and preservation of cultural traditions. We are the first Black farmer owned CSA in the Northern region of Minnesota.
The funds raised will go to:
Two greenhouses and gardening equipment: $30,000
Solar panel and renewable energy resources for the greenhouses: $20,000
Sprinter van (for transporting produce safely): $15,000
Marketing/Website development: $10,000
Walk-in cooler for produce storage: $15,000
Regenerative agriculture equipment: $10,000
Total = $100,000
Gatekeeping in the agriculture realm diverts most of the resources to white individuals, and it is time to give access to all aspiring farmers and growers of color. You can help us close the devastating gap that Black farmers in this industry face by supporting our new farm!
