Black Panther Party x Young Lords Zoom Teach-In

Donation protected
The purpose of this event is to highlight the solidarity between Black and Latino communities engaging in the anti-imperialist, class struggle. We’re also highlighting how both parties instituted community programs, such as free breakfast programs and health clinics, in hope of inspiring working-class African and Latino students in engaging in community organizing endeavors in this area and/or with the UMCP NAACP and PLUMAS at UMD.

Mr. Bobby Seale, the co-founder of the Black Panther Party for Self Defense, and Mr. Felipe Luciano, the co-founder of the Young Lords Party, have agreed to provide a history of the two organizations for the first 30-60 minutes. For the rest of the 1.5-2 hours, they will take questions from facilitators (likely the presidents of PLUMAS and UMCP NAACP) and the audience. The total speaking fees amount to $11,500 ($5,750 per person). Because of this large amount, we’re looking for 23 groups/individuals to donate $500 each. So far, NAACP has been able to raise $6,582 in pledges. Would you/your group be willing to pledge $500 or any sort of donation for this event? If you are able to donate more than $500, that would be greatly appreciated.

The listed fundraising amount is not $11,500 because we have already secured $6,582  in pledges outside of GoFundMe. Also, because GoFundMe takes 2.9% plus 30 cents of the campaign to continue its operations,  we have increased the fundraising amount to $4,776 to account for this difference.
