Black Queer & Trans Artists LA
Donation protected
LOOK AT US has put together an emergency fund for their black queer and trans artist community in Los Angeles.
Currently there is an attack on black bodies while we are amidst a pandemic. The black queer / trans community is in need of mutual aid now more than ever. It is important for us to help them stay safe and healthy. Physical and mental health are key during this time along with transportation, food, housing and protection of their family members also in need of their support.
Covid-19 has already left these musicians and artists at a stand still not knowing when they will be able to work and perform again. Now in the current climate and the call for change, the police have responded with aggression towards black people creating an increased level of risk for simply being on the streets leaving many fearing for their safety and/or going to jail.
This gofundme is set up to support 15 artists most affected by these harsh realities. These artists are key components in our art and music scenes maintaining culture in a city that has become too expensive for most to afford. Funds will be distributed equally to each artist.
It is important for these artists to feel safe not only as black artists, but as a black queer and trans artist family. Free to collaborate and express themselves however they wish without living in fear. This is a crucial time to make a difference in each of their lives.
As we look through our record collections, art books we love, and most cultural signifiers that have formed so much of our lives, we can safely say all of it has been created or deeply shaped by the black queer and trans community.
It's something special when an artist contributes to this planet feeling empowered in their stability. We always need them and now they need our support.
