Black Teen Authors Uncompromised!

In April of 2023, we will launch a program BLACK TEEN AUTHORS, UNCOMPROMISED! This is the first program in the

Cincinnati area to work with students ages 13-17 to create, write and

publish their book on THE WORLD LARGEST BOOK STORE,

AMAZON BOOKSELLERS. We are especially excited about targeting

low-income youth that would not normally have the exposure and

resources to become published authors successfully.

Researchers have identified writing as a critical outlet that can lead to self-awareness and self-esteem, which can improve mental health. Unfortunately, black youth face peer pressure, achievement gaps, bias, racism, and discrimination, among many other societal pressures that can threaten their confidence and self-esteem.

We are proud that this program will allow our black teens to become published authors. Due to a lack of exposure, resources, and financial means, most black students would not usually get this unique opportunity to participate in a specifically tailored writing program that coaches and mentors them in writing a book from start to finish.

Funds raised will assist in creating the structure needed to support the program and the underserved teens participating to accomplish writing their book from start to finish. Funds raised will go towards needs such as:

Marketing

Supplies for the writing process

Art and Illustration Needs

Formatting and Publishing Expenses

Celebration Book Event for Exposure

Support Hours

Our program will run from April 2023 - September 2023. Most of the student’s writing sessions will be 1:1 on zoom with me and the assistant writing coach. We plan to also come together as a group to brainstorm, share, encourage and educate each other. Once the program is finished, we will have a live celebration similar to a “book talk.” Through this event, the students can read and share excerpts from their books and also have the opportunity to sell to the audience.

The students will learn the following professional qualities to enhance their present and future endeavors:

• Enhance Professional Communication & Writing Skills that support the writer's communication style and still present the book in a professional and understandable manner

• Learn the Skill of Accountability & The Principle of Task Completion – this will be done by teaching the students to start and finish their book within a reasonable time frame

• Leadership & Entrepreneur Skills will be done through Creating, Promoting/Marketing & Selling their Book

• Financial Planning – Deciding What to Do and what not to do with the Royalties Made

• Use the experiences of Others as a Venue to Learn and be More Open to various backgrounds.
