Who are we?
Black Trans Foundation is a new non-profit organisation working for the social advancement of Black trans people in the UK. We are building a world where Black trans and Black non-binary people have the same access to healthcare and opportunities as their cisgender counterparts.
Why are we raising these funds?
Our first project is the Black Trans Free Therapy Fund, where we will be providing free therapy to at least 10 Black trans people in the UK for a minimum of 4 months. Therapy is already extremely inaccessible due to the lack of funding of healthcare services. Once you add Black and trans to the mix, the obstacles continue to multiply. The complex intricacies of Blackness and transness mean that finding a therapist who can adequately support growth and healing becomes even more difficult.
How are we going to do it?
We are a team of 3 Black trans individuals who will not only be bridging the financial gap through the funds raised, but also finding and matching the individuals with therapists that tailor to their unique and specific needs. This erases the emotional labour that is often undertaken and makes an already daunting process easier and more accessible.
