Community, we need your support!
Eli, Devin, and I (Kai) are 3 young Black, queer, trans men living in New York City. The three of us have been working for years to support our community through advocacy, media, art, and providing safe spaces for other queer and trans people. Devin and Eli run multiple TLGBQ+ support groups throughout the city, including Healing Through Arts, Bois Do Cry, and Transform, where members are provided with various resources as well as hot meals.
Our home has continuously been a community hub for Black and Brown trans people to come and be loved on, affirmed, and supported with a roof over their heads and food to eat when needed.
Unfortunately, the current landlord at our Bronx apartment won't make repairs. Among things like broken windows and faulty wiring that have not been fixed since we moved in, our ceiling has had constant leaks and grown mold, which is detrimental to our health, and the bathroom has began to cave in several times. Now, in the coldest months of the year, we don't even have reliable heat. We have tried to be patient because the fight is exhausting, but the situation is getting worse. The landlord refuses to address these issues, so the reality is we need to leave this place ASAP.
We've recently found an amazing apartment that meets all of our needs and will allow us to provide even more space for the community than we had before! But we need help to raise enough money ($7300 approximately because yes, the housing crisis in New York is that bad) to cover moving expenses by March 1st. If you would truly like to make positive and tangible differences in the lives of Black trans people, pour into our livelihood by donating to and sharing our campaign! Every donation is appreciated beyond words.
Peace & love,
Kai, Devin & Eli
