Help me write “Black People Trip”

My name is Robin Divine. I’m a writer and mental health advocate for Black women. Due to my own personal history of trauma, I’ve dealt with medication resistant depression for the majority of my life. I’m currently in my mid forties and my life is still in shambles from experiences that happened over thirty years ago. No matter what treatment or therapy I tried, the trauma remained stuck in my body.
*
Earlier this year I discovered psychedelics, mainly psilocybin (magic) mushrooms. My first mushroom trip left me with a feeling of hope that I had never felt before. Life felt possible.
*
As I learned more about psychedelics, I discovered the proven healing potential they had in treating depression, anxiety, PTSD and trauma. This year has been a collective of trauma for many of us. We deserve to know that there are alternatives when it comes to processing all that has happened, in the past and currently.
*
While I was grateful to find this information, I was disappointed (but not surprised) to see that it was mainly created by white men. There are very few books by women about psychedelics and there are none by Black women. Zero. That’s unacceptable.
*
I’m here to start to change that.
*
At the moment, I work as a grocery delivery driver and have been since the start of the Pandemic. I commute four hours a day to work which leaves very little time to write. I need space to write, to find an agent, to query and to conduct interviews. Your support would help me to do that.
*
“Black People Trip” will be a collection of essays on trauma, mental illness and psychedelics from the perspective of a Black queer woman.
*
We’re out here and our voices deserve to be heard.
*
Thanks for your support.
