The Black Gold Orchestra Recording Session

Hello visitors, fans, and supporters!

In July, we launched into the deep and formed an incredible ensemble of Black jazz musicians who graciously lended their gifts and talents to create The Black Gold Orchestra. We are a team of experienced, world class artists whose passion for music united us to form this organization and embark on a journey to not only make amazing music, but to also make a definitive statement about Black music, Black culture, and Black legacy.

The title "Black Gold" emphasizes that those connected to the production of our sound and events are Black. This includes musicians and composers, all of the staff and crew, engineers, and so forth. Orchestras across the globe that feature all black musicians may exist, but they are rare and relatively under-exposed compared to our non-black brothers and sisters.

With the completion of The Black Gold Orchestra project, we seek to reaffirm the excellence, mastery, sophistication and brilliance of our people and the music we call "jazz". It is our gift to the world birthed out, and in spite of the struggles of our ancestors. This is a collective offering from each musician represented in the orchestra.

The recording will feature original compositions and arrangements from members of the orchestra, including Larry Wilson, Mike Walton, Melvin Jones, and Frank Houston.

What Will the Money Be Used For?

We began recording our debut album in July, and must return to the studio for a second session in August. As many of us know, recording studios can be pricey, add to that engineers, post-production costs, and each of the 20+ band members on our roster, and the out-of-pocket expense can be alarming. We desire to utilize this platform to help offset the expenses. When giving, no amount is too small (nor too great), and we humbly appreciate your contribution to the fulfillment of this work and its success.
