Blackhawk Creek Trail Improvement
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Caden Boucher from Boy Scout Troop 359 in Whitehouse, Texas, and I am asking for donations to help fund my Eagle Scout project. I have chosen to make improvements to the Blackhawk Creek Hike and Bike Trail in Whitehouse. The total cost of these improvements will be approximately $1,800.
My project will consist of four parts. First, I will extend the boardwalks because the area floods easily. When this happens, the ground gets muddy and slippery and it takes a long time for it to dry up. Extending the boardwalks will make it easier and safer to get around this area.
Second, I will put chicken wire across the main bridge of the trail. The gaps in the main bridge have gotten wider over time and bike tires will fall into them causing accidents. Covering the bridge with chicken wire will reduce accidents making it much safer to ride.
Next, I will build a deck for the picnic table in the middle of the trail. The area around the picnic table floods easily and has weeds surrounding it. Building a deck for the picnic table will allow users to get up, out of the weeds and mud and will make the table much more usable and enjoyable.
Lastly, I will build a skinny for users to test their skill. A skinny is a long skinny platform that is used to test mountain bikers’ skill at narrow paths. This project will make the trails more enjoyable, safer, and push the limits of more experienced riders. Thank you for your consideration.
I want to thank the Whitehouse Texas City Council and Mayor James Wansley, Chris Jennings and the Whitehouse Parks and Recreation Foundation, and Justin Brown and Simpson’s Fitness and Adventure Sports for all their help!
