Hi! My name is Elijah Davis—I’m a young organizer/counselor in training who wants to spread care and mental health resources to vulnerable populations. In order to meet this need, safety and material security needs must be met first and foremost.
My mother and I are trying to raise money to purchase essential items for winter care packages for the homeless in downtown Indianapolis in order to provide some material resources that can help. We plan on buying most of these items in bulk via Amazon, however if we can find local alternatives to buy from we will try to use that. The items are as follows:
- High-quality sleeping bags that can hold heat in despite outside negative temperatures. These will be bought locally to ensure quality.
- Durable backpacks to carry supplies.
- $5-$10 cash depending how much money is raised.
- Travel-size toothpaste and toothbrushes
- Deodorant
- Combs
- Heavy-duty, waterproof gloves
- Winter socks
- Winter caps
- Hand-warmers
- Heavy winter coats
- Snacks (Pretzels, cereal bar, dried fruit)
- Refillable water-bottles
Our goal is to meet the needs of 25 people. The plan is to pass out supplies by the end of November before temperatures significantly drop.
