Get to know me better -

My name is Shreya Thosar, I am a budding filmmaker. I study my Masters in Filmmaking at the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles. My origin is Mumbai, India. Growing up I have seen the film and stage industry up close since my Father is a Writer and Director and my mother is a Theatre Actress and have really observed how to function through it all to say a story.

Being behind the curtains/ camera has always given me a stronger position to guide my actors to being the characters to build an entire new world for the audience. I wanted to incorporate the same feel in my final - Thesis project for my degree.

About the film -

Bleeding heart is a feature film that I am working, is a story about a girl named Mabel who is trapped in an anatomical heart with different level of chambers that she has to pass through to get to the golden heart at the top. Getting through the golden heart is the only way she could escape. Every chamber, perhaps every level is her hidden past trauma. The first chamber is the first time Mabel had to experience a “bad touch”.

I am known as a honest Writer/ Director so will be as blunt even here, the budget for the feature is a lot. Which is why I decided to a proof of concept using just the 1st chamber to tell this film as a Short.

This film has no dialogues and is an experimental take on visual storytelling. I want to take a topic that’s so personal yet universal and say it in a way people have not seen before.

Why this film?

I have tested and tried different genres over the years. Enjoyed each and every one of them. This is technically my only chance to experiment freely, before I enter the real show biz to have my own individual vision and voice as a filmmaker. I wanted to use it to my best! This concept is so close to my heart. Being a woman, I have gone through many such incidences in life that has shocked me at the moment and have taken me years to process and realise how I actually felt. This film is a second chance for all of those incidences in all of our life’s. To not escape but to be forced to face them all over again! But have a different ending this time. This is a second chance for Mabel to get justice to all the wrongs that happened to her. This is a second chance for me as an individual to speak up without actually saying a word!

Why no dialogues? - I am an Indian Filmmaker, people here expect me to only speak my native language. Now that I am here, people from back home expect me to speak English. There is a lot that goes lost in translation but less actually spoken and a lot less actually understood. Cinema should be universals. Stories should be felt, understood and expressed. So here I present my film : Bleeding Heart - Chamber 1.

What I need -

Funds. In one simple word I need funds to make this film. I want to make this film on my own and need people who would believe in this as much as I do to invest in this project! I believe in this to be big. So should you! It’s time you bet on budding artists who deserve a chance! Please help me get a chance to prove myself. I know I won’t let you or Mabel down. The chamber has a long way ahead, opening this door will only lead to bigger chambers ahead. I am hoping this to be big! Call me a knucklehead or an optimist or simply an Artist, I ll take it.
