Let me introduce you to my nephew Juan Rafael Merced. We knew him as "Pito". The Marine Corp knew him as Corporal Merced. He enlisted on June 9th, 2003 fresh out of high-school. He proudly defended his country. After enlisting he was deployed to the front lines of Iraq during ''OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM''. Juan was born on December 20th, 1984 and was called home way to soon on September 17th, 2021. Juan Graduated CLASS OF 2003 from Buford High School in Buford, GA. He was quite certain of what he wanted to do after high-school. The selflessness and bravery that Juan showed by joining the Marines was remarkable in itself. Especially during that unstable time in the world.
Although Juan was able to survive his tour in Iraq. He was unable to survive his battle against Covid here at home. Another family shattered by Covid.
To the the Marine Corp he was a soldier. To his fellow Marines he was their brother. To his family he was so much more. A beloved son, brother, husband, and most certainly a dedicated father. However if you ask his five children, 14 year old Zakhi, 11 year old Julianna, 9 year old Ya’seina, 4 year old Harley, and 3 year old Joelle., They would simply say he was our Daddy. One of the hardest parts of this tragedy is that his wife is pregnant with their sixth child. A child who will only see him in pictures and hear the stories. They will never in this lifetime know who their daddy was. I am an uncle that is still grieving my nephew’s passing. Looking past the grief, I see a hard financial road ahead for his five, soon to be six children.
So today I pray that if you are reading this, please take a moment and whisper each of the children’s names into God’s ear. Lift each one of them up in prayer. I ask those of you who are able to please give what you can. Know that ''NO AMOUNT IS TO LITTLE" when blessing these children that were left behind. Give, in honor of a soldier who defended our liberties. In honor of a son, grandson, brother, nephew, and husband who touched the lives of so many. But most of all please help us to bless these six children. That will never be able to toss a ball, play a video game, hold his hand, get their hair braided or dance with their beloved father again. Well at least not until they meet again in Glory.
After reading this post please give whatever you can to help provide for these children. May God bless all that are able to give financially. As well as those who can give spiritually. We are also asking for prayers over the lives of these children today and their future days. God bless you all.
