Blessing Jonathan the Delivery Biker
Donation protected
12/30 was my original grocery order where I first realized Jonathan was delivering groceries on a bike. I couldn't find a way to connect with him after that through any personal connections so on 1/2 I placed another order and Jonathan was assigned to it. I am so grateful for another opportunity to talk with him and find out if he simply enjoyed delivering groceries on a bike (in the cold/elements) or if there was a need there that I could help meet. After our few minutes of talking, me learning his story I knew I wanted to help him. I honestly thought these efforts would be between my Facebook friends and I, and that together we would take care of his bike payment which would certainly be AMAZING but I had NO idea what was to come. I started this through Venmo but it is now so much bigger than my wildest imaginations that I am moving it here to GoFundMe. Our community CARES and has totally rallied for Jonathan & his family.
**I am transferring the $14,829.14 received through Venmo and am actively refunding anything sent beyond that so that the donations can be made here and all in one place both for transparency and legitimacy of the efforts.
The original post and updates for the story are here:
12/30/23 (with campaign picture attached) - I’m curious if anybody knows this man? He was super nice and just delivered our groceries on a bicycle. It wasn’t a small order either ❤️Please PM me if you do. I can’t imagine someone is delivering groceries on a bicycle in the cold simply because they enjoy it and if there’s more to the story than enjoying doing it I would love to help him. Also, I didn’t hit him or chase him down. he forgot he had a couple things in his bookbag so I met him so he didn’t have to come all the way back. his name is Jonathan
*No connections made
1/2/24 - I found him today and talked with him for a while and we both shed some tears. I just want to say that I’ll take this experience today as a lesson on slowing down and looking for ways to spread more kindness. Trust me, our world needs it and it truly touched me. I don’t want to share the details of his story because I didn’t get his permission to do that but he did share it with me. To summarize, he is a kind soul who has fallen on hard times and is struggling to dig himself out of it financially. He owes a balance on his bike and once that is paid for his next goal is a car, he used to have one and it broke down. He does have a drivers license. Until then he says he wakes up daily, shops & delivers these orders and then goes home, eats dinner and falls asleep to do it again he has both WALKED, and driven a manual bike whenever his e-bike has been broken down or for a period of time that he didn’t have a charger. I admire that he still finds a way, and also feel so heart broken that he has to do this every day… especially now that it’s so cold. And he’s SO kind. I don’t know the exact factors leading up to his troubles but we did talk through his past jobs and it seems very legit. I also don’t think at this point it’s any of my business. I just know that I want to help him. I would love to start a fund for him to help get him closer to his goals and a better situation. If you’d like to participate I have shared my Venmo in the comments with a picture of the $0 balance. I will be very transparent about the balance of the gifts I receive there before they are given to him. He gave me his number at my request so I can contact him easier next time. I know that he owes $1000 on his bike and his goal for a car is $1500. We will contribute enough to at least cover his bike payment over what we already plan to do personally if it’s not pulled together collectively. I can and absolutely will do some on our own but the thought of what we might can do together as a community is truly incredible.
And as the donations pour in thank you so much… I just want to hug y’all so tight
Double update - Thank you so much everyone!!! The way our community is rallying so hard for this man is amazing ❤️❤️❤️
1/3/24 - 2:15PM EST - Donations received through venmo total 14,829.14 (and sent to gofundme - anything further through venmo will be refunded).
1/4/24 - 3PM EST - $14,839.14 was given to Jonathan and his family in a cashiers check
Update 1/6/24 - the beneficiary of this fund is Jonathan’s wife, Golde Lord. I have met with both of them in person and have directly sent them the information from gofundme to accept the funds to their bank account which is listed under her name. ❤️
At the end of our meeting on 1/2/24 Jonathan declined monetary assistance at first and simply thanked me for listening. This has left a lasting impression on my heart and I hope this serves as a gentle reminder that sometimes it's all someone needs. <3 A little kindness can go a long ways... this is proof!!! Thank you so much for participating!
