Blessing Katelyn

Katelyn is currently battling a rare form of leukemia for the second time.

First when she was 12 years old she went through 2 years of intensive chemotherapy. She is now undergoing chemotherapy leading up to radiation, intensive chemo, and a bone marrow transplant. Her diagnosis was found back in September when Kate was getting health checks done to move to Hawaii for training and mission work with YWAM. She was just a couple months away from the 5 year remission-mark of being considered cured, when we heard the devastating news that she has cancer again.

Currently she is working and juggling many medical appointments, until she must start isolating before her transplant date on March 23rd. Allogeneic stem cell transplants are only done at the Tom Baker Cancer Center, 320 kms from her home. So Kate will be back and forth to Calgary for appointments in the coming weeks. Then the transplant team plans for Kate to be in Calgary 110 days, before being able to continue her treatment another 3 months closer to home, in Edmonton.

Kate has already undergone 5 months of nightly chemotherapy and nearly $10,000 in predominantly uncovered treatments in preparation for her transplant. These treatments and their side-effects are some of the many stresses Kate has to put to the side, as she focuses her energy on getting her health back.

We are praying for healing for Kate, protection on the highways as family members travel back and forth to stay with Kate, and for enduring relationships while they’re apart during her 3 and a half months of treatment in Calgary. Kate had been looking forward to world-wide travel and mission-work, so she could use your prayers as she redefines her short-term purpose. After a year of Bible college, where she lived in residence and experienced young adult independence, it is difficult for her to rely on her parents and her many medical teams. The recovery may be a long process but she is motivated to build her strength back-up quickly; she can’t wait to be able to go traveling.

Throughout Kate’s treatment, fees are incurred for parking, accommodation, meals, transportation, and uncovered medications.
