Blood Gold and Oil - a rehearsed reading.

Donation protected

Hello. We are Jan Woolf, playwright and Douglas Wood, actor, co-producing  a new play, ‘Blood Gold and Oil.'
As objects from an archaeological dig are set up in an exhibition,  ghost and love stories entangle, and the past is brought into the present.
We are fundraising for a rehearsed reading on May 28th in the extraordinary Tin Tabernacle in Kilburn, where artistic directors will be invited to consider the play for a full theatrical run in 2023,  the 20th anniversary of the invasion of Iraq.  Jan started the play as writer in residence on a dig in Jordan in 2013, with archaeologist Neil Faulkner and his team. Digging up pieces of the past helped form the play,  and the aim is to use original artefacts from the dig.  Neil died in February this year and the play is now dedicated to him.  As script advisor his knowledge of the Arab Revolt of WW1 and its subsequent betrayal is invaluable.  The play also draws on Jan's teenage fascination with the complex character of ‘Lawrence of Arabia’, and the film that turned him into a household name.  The above  images show Jan on the dig in Jordan and her painting for the set - a portrait of Lawrence done in the style of Andy Warhol to reference celebrity and all its complications.  The film clip features Douglas Clarke Wood as Lawrence.
The funds will be used to pay equity rates, for accomplished actors Douglas,  Shiv Jalota and Charlotte Moore. venue hire  and filming as part of a production pack .  For a recent history of the play – formally titled The Man With the Gold – see http://www.janwoolf.com/man-with-gold/
We'd love you to help us fund this important play, and any extra amount raised will be used to support publicity. We have confidence that this reading will see it on its way to 2023, and your name will appear on a list of backers in the programme.
